EFFECTS OF CITY LIGHTS ON NIGHT SKY - from a small town in Wisconsin

This is a picture of Lone Rock, Wisconsin taken from 10 miles away showing the effect of city lights on the night sky. According to the 2000 U.S. Census - this is a town that is 1.2 square miles and has a population of 979 people. We at Scenic San Antonio can only speculate on what San Antonio's lighting effect is from ten miles away or for that matter at Camp Bullis. Our city is over 500 times bigger in square miles and let's not consider the population ratio. Wish we had a night time picture taken from Camp Bullis taken at say 10:00 p.m. at night and looking back at San Antonio's lighting effect on the night time sky. Our thanks go to "the Librarian" for finding this picture. If you click on the picture it is linked to the accompanying story and that areas battle with light pollution and its subsequent blockage of stars in the sky. Isn't that why people bought property out there in the Texas Hill Country in little enclaves and the developers heavily controlled building nearby so as not to affect the night time sky with little to no street lights?

This is an example of an LEED fully compliant street light, not one 3 to 10 times above that level. This is what Lone Rock is converting to because of complaints and the effects that it causes other citizens who go to the banks of the river to stargaze. You will notice that there is no light splatter above or to the sides as the pictures shows. The grass and areas in front of the side walk are not illuminated just the path of the sidewalk for which it was intended. You will also notice that in this town (look at the trees) there is no nighttime sky effect from street or house lights from houses in the background or the houses/streets behind those houses depicted. The business sign on the far left of this picture is also not affecting the surrounding area - again look at the trees behind the sign.
